A New Chapter for a Long-Standing Company

Chris Brown is the proud new owner of Peebles Monument Co., continuing the legacy of Steve Ryan, a 50-year veteran who upheld the business his family founded generations earlier. “Steve is a community leader, an astute businessman, and a valued mentor,” says Chris. “It’s a bit unnerving trying to continue a legacy that has lasted multiple generations.”

Despite the big shoes to fill, Chris, along with long-time employees TJ Williams and Tayna White, and new hire Cody Jordan, take pride in ensuring every project is built to last. The team is known for pouring robust monument foundations and for going the extra mile, such as installing government markers free of charge to honor service men and women.

With a background as an artist, Chris brings creativity and care to every design. Before taking over Peebles, he spent years in the print industry after originally working for Steve early in his career. “My heart was always pulled back to the monument space,” Chris says. “I love creating a light, fun working atmosphere in what can be a sensitive industry.”

Day-to-day, Chris manages all aspects of the business, from design and etching to administration, but his favorite part remains connecting with customers. “Those connections motivate me to do my best on every project. I want to be present for them,” he explains. Looking ahead, Chris is exploring new opportunities to expand what Peebles offers.

Recently, Chris was able to design a columbarium for his aunt and uncle. Described as an inspiration, his uncle was a talented individual who could draw, paint, and hand carve powder horns. The etched scene Chris created for his aunt and uncle has deep sentimental value, making it a memorable project.
